About This Product

Oil cleansing is the cornerstone of the Blinking Owl Acres natural skincare routine. This Neem & Sulfur Oil cleanse is especially formulated to help soothe redness and inflammation. It offers a holisitic approach for those navigating acne or rosacea prone skin.

While conventional acne face washes, natural soaps, and even "gentle" foaming cleansers for rosacea, often disrupt the delicate balance of your microbiome and leave behind deposits of ingredients that could exacerbate already inflamed skin, this cleanser offers a more supportive way to achieve a deep, satisfying clean with potent traditional remedies.

This unique product:

- Helps target redness and inflammation with traditional soothing ingredients like sulfur, neem, and yarrow.

- Supports balanced oil production without over-drying skin.

- Deeply cleanses pores while leaving skin feeling rejuvenated and hydrated.

- Gently exfoliates skin without harsh chemicals or abrasive scrubs, leaving your skin happy with a healthy fresh glow.

- Respects and nourishes your skin's microbiome and barrier, unlike conventional face washes.

- Turns your daily cleanse into a grounded, sensory ritual you'll love.

Ingredients

Because we prioritize raw, effective botanicals over artificial perfumes or filler ingredients, this cleanser has a distinct personality, with a heady aroma reminiscent of mineral hot springs. It's not everyone's favorite scent profile, but most of our customers over the years resoundingly agree that the benefits are well worth it.

Sulfur
A time-honored dermatological remedy, the use of sulfur dates back to ancient civilizations. We use it for its incredible ability to gently exfoliate and soothe red, texured skin. It is traditionally used to support those dealing with rosacea and acne, helping soothe blemishes while calming the skin.

Organic Neem Oil
Neem is an antibacterial powerhouse that helps target pathogens and balance oil production, providing relief from itchiness and discomfort while calming inflammation.

Organic Castor Oil
The thick, viscous texture grabs onto dirt, makeup, and debris to gently lift them away. It is naturally antimicrobial and deeply hydrating, leaving behind soft, nourished skin.

Organic Yarrow
Yarrow is another traditional herbal remedy. It has been used for ages to reduce inflammation, calm breakouts, support the skin barrier, and balance skin moisture. It's considered a cooling herb.

How To Use

Oil cleansing is a practice of self-love. When you're oil cleansing, you can't help but slow down and connect with your skin - even if it's for a fleeting moment in your busy day.

Prepare: Remove all silver jewelry (rings, necklaces) as sulfur will tarnish them immediately.

Massage: Pump a small amount of oil into your palm. Massage it into dry skin using gentle circular motions while avoiding the eye area. Take a moment to breathe into the massage.

Steam: Soak a soft washcloth in hot water (steamy, not scalding). Wring it out so the cloth is damp and warm but not dripping. Place the warm cloth over your face and press gently. Allow the steam to penetrate for a moment until the cloth cools.

Wipe: Gently remove the oil with the washcloth using soft wiping motions.

Repeat (Optional): If you feel you want to remove more oil from your skin, rinse the cloth and repeat the steaming & wiping steps.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I have very sensitive skin. Can I still use this cleanser?

A: We always recommend a patch test first. This blend was specifically formulated with red and inflamed skin in mind. Ingredients like Yarrow and Sulfur are ancient remedies for soothing heat and irritation. However, this cleanser is pretty powerful and somewhat exfoliating, so if you have concerns with sensitivity, we recommend that you start oil cleansing with the Herbal Oil Cleanse first and give your skin time to rebuild a healthy barrier. If you do well with the more minimal Herbal Oil Cleanse, you can take the next step and try working in the Neem & Sulfur oil cleanse into your skincare routine once or twice a week.

Q: How long does it usually take to see results with acne or redness?

A: Everyone’s healing journey is unique, but many in our community report feeling softer and happier skin after the very first wash. For visible changes in redness or breakouts, consistent use (a few times a week) often shows significant improvement within two weeks. For stellar results, we also recommend addressing sleep, stress, and diet issues and opting for natural and gentle skincare and makeup products.

Q: Will this dry out my skin if I use it every day?

A: It depends on your individual skin type and the health of your skin barrier. Unlike harsh foaming cleansers that strip your natural oils, this is an oil-based cleanser designed to deep clean without drying out your skin. However, because Sulfur is a gentle exfoliant, and Yarrow and Neem are potent botanicals, listen to your skin. Some folks use it nightly, while others prefer using it only once per week. Start slowly and gauge how your skin responds to this cleanser. Also, after cleansing, it is always a good idea to follow up with a few spritzes of a hydrosol and then a moisturizer, like our Barrier Repair Serum, to lock in that hydration and healthy glow.

Q: I’m sensitive to smells—what does this cleanser actually smell like?

A: Because this formula is packed with potent raw ingredients like Sulfur and Neem, it has a distinct, earthy aroma often described as "mineral hot springs". Some people say it smells somewhat "medicinal", while others pick up on a savory/garlicky or oniony aroma. Some people feel very strongly about it, others don't care. While it isn’t a floral spa scent, our community agrees that the results—calm, clear, happy skin—are absolutely worth it. But there's no way around it... this product is smelly.

Q: I love what this cleanser does for my skin, but I hate the lingering scent of the sulfur. How can I get rid of the smell?

A: While we can't get rid of the natural aroma of this cleanser without also getting rid of its incredible soothing properties, you can make a serious dent in the lingering aroma by essentially double cleansing. What you would do is follow up with the Herbail Oil Cleanse after rinsing off the Neem & Sulfur cleanser. This will lift the Neem & Sulfur that was left behind and pull it off when you rinse off the Herbal Oil Cleanse. However, keep in mind that the trace amounts of Neem, Sulfur, and Yarrow that stay on your skin after you cleanse with the Neem & Sulfur Oil Cleanse are actually working on soothing and balancing your skin even after you are done cleansing. So, if you can handle it, it's worthwhile to let these herbal remedies do their thing.

Q: Can I use this to remove my eye makeup?

A: We recommend avoiding the delicate eye area with this specific cleanser. The active ingredients that make it so powerful for breakouts and redness can sting the eyes. For eye makeup, we suggest using the Herbal Oil Cleanse.

Q: How long should I leave the cleanser on my skin before rinsing?

A: There is no hard rule here. It depends on how much time you have to spend on your cleansing routine. We recommend that you spend a few minutes massaging the product into your face before rinsing it off. That said, even if you rub it into your face and then immediately rinse, you will still be benefiting from the deep cleaning and healing properties of all of these beautiful ingredients. If you have extra time, and want to experience a deeper level of treatment, you can apply the product to your face like a mask (carefully avoiding the eye area) and leave it on for an extra 10 or 15 minutes while you take care of other daily rituals like brushing your teeth, doing your nails, etc. This gives the cleanser more time to soak in and work its magic.

Q: I noticed this contains Sulfur. Will it damage my jewelry?

A: Yes! Sulfur is wonderful for the skin, but it naturally tarnishes sterling silver and other metals upon contact. Please remove your rings, necklaces, and earrings before beginning your cleansing ritual to keep them sparkling. If accidental contact happens, a jewelry polishing cloth or a bit of lemon juice usually fixes it right up.
