Q: I have very sensitive skin. Can I still use this cleanser?
A: We always recommend a patch test first. This blend was specifically formulated with red and inflamed skin in mind. Ingredients like Yarrow and Sulfur are ancient remedies for soothing heat and irritation. However, this cleanser is pretty powerful and somewhat exfoliating, so if you have concerns with sensitivity, we recommend that you start oil cleansing with the Herbal Oil Cleanse first and give your skin time to rebuild a healthy barrier. If you do well with the more minimal Herbal Oil Cleanse, you can take the next step and try working in the Neem & Sulfur oil cleanse into your skincare routine once or twice a week.
Q: How long does it usually take to see results with acne or redness?
A: Everyone’s healing journey is unique, but many in our community report feeling softer and happier skin after the very first wash. For visible changes in redness or breakouts, consistent use (a few times a week) often shows significant improvement within two weeks. For stellar results, we also recommend addressing sleep, stress, and diet issues and opting for natural and gentle skincare and makeup products.
Q: Will this dry out my skin if I use it every day?
A: It depends on your individual skin type and the health of your skin barrier. Unlike harsh foaming cleansers that strip your natural oils, this is an oil-based cleanser designed to deep clean without drying out your skin. However, because Sulfur is a gentle exfoliant, and Yarrow and Neem are potent botanicals, listen to your skin. Some folks use it nightly, while others prefer using it only once per week. Start slowly and gauge how your skin responds to this cleanser. Also, after cleansing, it is always a good idea to follow up with a few spritzes of a hydrosol and then a moisturizer, like our Barrier Repair Serum, to lock in that hydration and healthy glow.
Q: I’m sensitive to smells—what does this cleanser actually smell like?
A: Because this formula is packed with potent raw ingredients like Sulfur and Neem, it has a distinct, earthy aroma often described as "mineral hot springs". Some people say it smells somewhat "medicinal", while others pick up on a savory/garlicky or oniony aroma. Some people feel very strongly about it, others don't care. While it isn’t a floral spa scent, our community agrees that the results—calm, clear, happy skin—are absolutely worth it. But there's no way around it... this product is smelly.
Q: I love what this cleanser does for my skin, but I hate the lingering scent of the sulfur. How can I get rid of the smell?
A: While we can't get rid of the natural aroma of this cleanser without also getting rid of its incredible soothing properties, you can make a serious dent in the lingering aroma by essentially double cleansing. What you would do is follow up with the Herbail Oil Cleanse after rinsing off the Neem & Sulfur cleanser. This will lift the Neem & Sulfur that was left behind and pull it off when you rinse off the Herbal Oil Cleanse. However, keep in mind that the trace amounts of Neem, Sulfur, and Yarrow that stay on your skin after you cleanse with the Neem & Sulfur Oil Cleanse are actually working on soothing and balancing your skin even after you are done cleansing. So, if you can handle it, it's worthwhile to let these herbal remedies do their thing.
Q: Can I use this to remove my eye makeup?
A: We recommend avoiding the delicate eye area with this specific cleanser. The active ingredients that make it so powerful for breakouts and redness can sting the eyes. For eye makeup, we suggest using the Herbal Oil Cleanse.
Q: How long should I leave the cleanser on my skin before rinsing?
A: There is no hard rule here. It depends on how much time you have to spend on your cleansing routine. We recommend that you spend a few minutes massaging the product into your face before rinsing it off. That said, even if you rub it into your face and then immediately rinse, you will still be benefiting from the deep cleaning and healing properties of all of these beautiful ingredients. If you have extra time, and want to experience a deeper level of treatment, you can apply the product to your face like a mask (carefully avoiding the eye area) and leave it on for an extra 10 or 15 minutes while you take care of other daily rituals like brushing your teeth, doing your nails, etc. This gives the cleanser more time to soak in and work its magic.
Q: I noticed this contains Sulfur. Will it damage my jewelry?
A: Yes! Sulfur is wonderful for the skin, but it naturally tarnishes sterling silver and other metals upon contact. Please remove your rings, necklaces, and earrings before beginning your cleansing ritual to keep them sparkling. If accidental contact happens, a jewelry polishing cloth or a bit of lemon juice usually fixes it right up.
